March 5 - Tonight (Friday, March 5) at in San Antonia, Texas, the New Orleans
Hornets will face the San Antonio Spurs. NBA betting fans will no doubt
back the Spurs, as they beat the Hornets 106-92 on Monday, and the Hornets were
narrowly defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies 104-100 on Wednesday.
With the NBA post season right around the corner, New Orleans is cutting it
super fine to earn a coveted spot in the playoffs. In fact, there is only one
spot left out of eight and the struggling Hornets will have to overcome a hefty
schedule, never mind the fact they have lost their last six games, if they are
to progress.
But the odds are not great for Hornets betting fans that New Orleans will
be able to snatch the last playoff spot as they've likely left it far too late.
Confidence in the team is no doubt running on empty, and it will have to
continue to make do without star point guard, Chris Paul, who is recovering from
knee surgery.
At least New Orleans' rookie guards Marcus Thornton and Darren Collison have
been playing their best in recent games to pick up the slack left by Paul's
absence. Consider that in his last 5 games Thornton has averaged 25.8 PPG and
4.8 RPG, while in his last 10 games Collison has averaged 21.5 PPG and 9.7 APG.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been flying high of late. They haven't
played since dispatching the Hornets on Monday, so the extra rest coupled with
their first winning streak in two weeks, will give them added confidence. Before
playing New Orleans, on Sunday San Antonio beat the Phoenix Suns 113-110.
Said Spurs coach, Gregg Popovich following Monday's game against the Hornets,
'These were nice back-to-back wins for us. Unfortunately shooting has been a
real weakness of ours this year. We've shot very poorly and it's cost us a lot
of games. So it was nice to see people knock down some shots tonight.'
The Spurs made over 50 percent of their shots against the Hornets on Monday,
thanks in no small part to the efforts of second-year guard, George Hill. Hill
put 23 points on the board, his sixth team-leading point total from the last 13
games. So Spurs betting fans will be hoping for a repeat performance
tonight.
