NFL Betting Guide Eagles vs Cowboys Showdown

--

January 7 - With the NFL regular season over, its time for the nail-biting playoffs which will determine which teams make it all the way to the coveted Super Bowl. And one game that will have NFL betting fans sweating and salivating is Sunday's showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.

If you've been following football this season, you'll know that this will be the third time this NFL season that these two teams have faced each other. In the first two it was the Dallas Cowboys who left the field triumphant, which is why the Philadelphia Eagles will no doubt pull out all the stops to avoid a clean sweep.

And this may be much harder than it sounds. According to the stats, since 1970 there have been 19 times where NFL teams have played each other three times during the season. NFL for the underdogs, however, 12 of those games resulted in clean sweeps. So the Eagles really have their work cut out.

It won't help matters any for Philadelphia the fact that in their most recent game against Dallas, they were completely 'shut down.' So if they have a prayer in hell to prevent an Eagles onslaught they'll need a new game plan for the weekend. But it' not all doom and gloom for the Eagles. There is indeed a silver lining.

Consider that in their favor the Philadelphia Eagles boast one of the most 'explosive' passing offenses in the NFL, leading the league with an impressive 21 passing plays of 40 yards or more. This is mostly due to wider receiver DeSean Jackson, who has more than proved to be an enormous asset to the team.

So assuming Jackson is firing on all cylinders on Sunday, the Eagles could have half a chance. The other half chance will rely on the team thinking out of the box by addressing a particularly weak area of its game - namely, its lack-luster running game. By creating more running opportunities, it could be game on.

In terms of what will give Dallas a big advantage on Saturday, apart from their superb scrimmage skills, is the fact that they are hot at the moment and they know it. The team's high level of confidence and knowledge that they have beaten the Eagles twice already this season, will add a lot of weight to their game.

And now for the all important part. NFL betting odds for this game by top online betting site, Bodog:
