March 13 - Unless you've been living under a rock or have just come out of
a coma, you'll no doubt be aware of just how exciting this NFL season is turning
out to be as the playoffs draw closer and the top teams compete to come out tops
in their respective conferences, as we look at NFL Week 14.
In Week 14 it was a game that took place last Thursday that had
NFL betting fans scratching their heads in amazement, or at least those
not canny enough to back underdogs, the Cleveland Browns. You see the Browns
went up against the defending champs the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 10-point
underdogs.
And as such many NFL betting fans expected the Browns to simply 'rollover and
play dead.' However, just the opposite happened as they brought out their A-game
and took it to the Steelers. In a magnificent display of football prowess, the
Browns forced the Steelers into a convincing 13-6 submission.
Not only did the victory give Cleveland fans the morale boost they needed and
canny NFL betting fans a nice wad of winnings, but it also gave last year's
Super Bowl champions their fifth consecutive defeat. And most of the blame for
their poor performances of late has been allocated to the team's defense.
Or lack thereof, as Thursday's game demonstrated. The Browns scored all of their
points in the first half as they cut through the Steelers' defense like a hot
knife through butter. Browns kicker Phil Dawson contributed with two superb
29-yard field goals while running back Chris Jennings scored a touchdown.
But as poor as the Steelers' defense was, the Browns also found many holes in
the rival's offense, which it ably demonstrated by taking down Pittsburgh
quarterback Ben Roethlisberger eight times. In fact, the underdogs kept the
defending NFL champs to a paltry 201 yards from 18 of 32 completions.
In other NFL Week 14 news, underdogs the San Diego Chargers beat the Dallas
Cowboys 20-17 on Sunday, adding one more to their 8-game winning streak. And the
Indianapolis Colts hung on to beat the Denver Broncos 28-16 as 6.5-point home
favourites, and in doing so improved their ATS record to 9-3-1.
