Typical Betting Rules

--

Sports betting rules in general are typical to most sports books. BUT, rules may vary between the different sports betting sites, punters must ensure that they check the rules before they place their bets.

A : Terms of Bets

1. All sporting events must be completed at the dates and time that they were originally scheduled. When a sporting event is delayed or postponed by more than 12 hours, all bets are cancelled and money is refunded.

2. Most events will require punters to place bets before the start of the event. Any bets placed after the kick off or start time will be null and void.

3. Each sport book reserves the right to set maximum bets. Punters may not open more than 1 account to try and bypass this system. Note that sport books will void a punters' bets, if they find out that he has multiple accounts. Zey haf veys and means of finding zis out!

4. NOTE: A bet is only valid if a punter gets a confirmation via a screen message.

5. Once the sport book has confirmed a bet, it can not be changed or cancelled.

6. In general, sport books will calculate wins and / or losses at the following times:

  • Football - 55 minutes of play
  • NBA Basketball - 43 minutes of play
  • NCAA Basketball - 35 minutes of play
  • Hockey - 55 minutes of play
  • All other sporting events - 55 minutes of play
  • Overtime periods, quarters or extra innings are counted in the final score when betting on totals, money line and spread betting.
  • On half time bets - overtime periods are included as part of the 2nd half.
  • Other Sports - All other games involving a scheduled length of play or time limit, must play to their conclusion or have five minutes or less of the scheduled playing time remaining, when the game concludes to be considered official for betting purposes.

B : All Bets are Final : Check all bets carefully. Once a bet is accepted by the bookmaker, it cannot and will not be changed.

C : Limits : Online betting limits are listed under the betting ticket. Check the limits!

Baseball

Click here for more on Baseball Betting Rules

Special Major League Baseball Rules : Major League Baseball games are official after 5 innings of play (4,5 innings if the home team is leading). If a game is later called or suspended, the winner is decided by the score after the last full inning, unless the home team tied with the score or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning. The score at the time the game is called will decide the winner. When betting on total runs or run lines, the game must go the regulation 9 innings, (8.5 innings if the home team is leading). It will otherwise be seen as a "No Action" bet, and all money will be refunded accordingly.

Bets on total runs will be refunded if a pitcher change occurs, prior to both listed pitchers throwing at least 1 pitch. Baseball bets are accepted as "Listed" in the event of a pitching change prior to the game, and all bets on a game are seen as "No Action"., and will be refunded to the punters.

Any and all baseball series bets must have all 3 games played, by the end of a determined date, for the bet to have action. Should all 3 games not be played by that specified date, then all bets are "NO ACTION", regardless of whether 1 team has 2 wins. All 3 games must be official by the Las Vegas Gaming Standards.

NOTE : For betting purposes : Each teams' starting pitcher is defined as the pitcher that throws the first pitch.

Baseball, all games that go at least the full 9-innings and finish tied, as a result of a suspension of play, shall be graded as a "push" on all money line bets. However, all run-line and total bets will have action. Note: this is a very rare occurrence, and so :the Las Vegas rules for this happening are not at this point set in stone.

Football

Boxing

In boxing, a full round is only considered for betting purposes when the bell rings indicating the end of such round. The official stopping of a round by the referee, before the sounding of the bell, will not and does not constitute a full round.

Special Boxing Rule : Fights must be fought within 1 week of the specified date for a punters' bet to have action.

Golf

Tournament matchup betting : requires that all players listed in the matchup must tee off for a punters' bet to have action. The player with the most completed holes is the winner. Should the players complete the same number of holes, the player with the lowest score will be the winner. If the players are still tied, then the bet will be "No Action"-ed and all monies will be refunded. If both golfers in a match-up, are in a playoff, then the winner of play-off wins the matchup and all other playoff participants tie each other.

Should a tournament be shortened or otherwise hampered due to weather conditions, the official result will be used when settling the bet, regardless of the number or rounds played. But, if there is no further play after a bet is placed, that bet will be voided.

Single day matchups : These are bets on a specific days' 18-holes, but do not include holes played as part of a completion from previous day's rounds, nor playoff holes considered as part of the overall tournament score. If the day's round is shortened or affected by weather conditions, and held off until the next day, the full 18 holes will be considered in deciding the outcome of the bet, even if played over 2 days. Both Golfers must tee off for "action". Should both players end the 18 holes in a tie, the Money Line bet will be refunded, Stroke Line money will be Actioned.

Single round : Single player propositions require that all 18 holes must be completed.

Stroke Line Betting : In golf the lower score wins. If a punter bets (-1/2) a Stroke, his golfer must shoot 1 or more shots lower than the opponent. If the punter bets (+1/2) his golfer must shoot the same score or a lower score than the opponent. i.e: Punter bets Ernie (-1/2) vs. Tiger. Ernie shoots 69, Tiger 70. Ernie (-1/2) is the winner. Ernie shoots 69, Tiger shoots 69, Tiger (+1/2) is the winner.

Rules for Finishing Top 3 : When a tie or multiple players finishing in the top 3 position, bets are paid using the Dead Heat Rule

European Football

All football bets are settled on 90 minutes of play, (45min a side) and this includes any time added by the Referee with respect to injuries and other stoppages. Extra Time, Golden Goals and Penalty Shoot-Outs do not count.

Bets on European football : In order for punters to place their LinesMaker bet correctly, they must predict the result of at least 1 game : 1=home win, 0=draw, 2=away win. The punter can bet a parlay or "combination", but must ensure that he gets all the selections correct in the parlay column.

Bets taken on 'first goal scorer' will be voided, if the player chosen does not actually take part in the game, or comes on after a goal has already been scored. Bets taken on 'last goal scorer' will be voided if the player does not actually play or comes on as a substitute.

If any game or match is abandoned, or postponed, all bets will be voided, unless the relevant market result has already happened; i.e: 'first goal scorer" betting will stand if a goal had already been scored before the match was abandoned.

Where a venue is changed to another venue, all bets will stand unless the venue is changed to the original away team's ground, in which case all bets will be voided.

Cricket

Should the match be delayed / postponed / limited by the weather, bets will be governed by the official competition rules.

Rugby

Should any match be abandoned or postponed, all bets will be voided, except for bets on the 1st-try-scorer if a try had already been scored prior to the abandonment of the game.

Where a venue is changed, bets will stand unless the game is to be played at the original away team's ground in which case all bets will be void.

Tennis

In the event of a match starting, but not being completed, the player moving on to the next round, is seen to be the winner. Should any of the following occur, all bets will still stand: (i) change of playing surface, (ii) change of venue, (iii) change from indoor to outdoor court or vice versa or (iii) match is delayed to the next day due to foul weather.

Motor Sports

When betting on "Odds to Win" a motor race, a punters' bet shall be "No Action" should the driver not start the race. Both drivers must start the race for matchup betting, for the bet to have "action". The start of any motor race is defined as : the signal to begin the warm-up lap. The official winner at the end of the race, is the winner for betting purposes. In league championship betting, drivers must race in at least 1 race during the season to be deemed "action".

Special Motor Sport Rule : Races must be run within 1 week of the scheduled date for a punters bet to have "action".

The race must complete the scheduled number of laps and / or distance for specific proposition bets, those with reference to number of laps and / or distance, to have "action". Matchups, Finishing Position Props and Future bets will still have "action" regardless. The nascar website is the official source for the grading of all NASCAR bets.

NCAA Hoops

Should there be a tie in NCAA conference betting, the team, entering the conference tournament, that is placed higher shall be judged the winner.

Horse Racing

All betting lines are "actioned" regardless of injuries, scratches, and / or in the event a horse does not start or complete the specified race. Las Vegas rules, regulations, payoffs and bet types apply.

Parlay or Multiple Betting : No multiple or parlay bets can be accepted where individual legs or races are "connected".

Dead Heat Rule : Should there be a dead heat or a tie, the stakes will be divided by the number of selections tie-ing with the divided stake settled at full odds. Any remaining stakes are lost. If the tie was a betting option, then the Dead Heat Rule will not apply. The Dead Heat Rule only applies to Future bets. i.e: if there is a 3-way tie for the Top Scorer in a Football game, then a punters' winnings are determined by taking his stake, dividing it by 3, and multiplying that amount by the odds on his betting ticket.
