BASKETBALL BETTING
If you know how to bet on football, you will know how to bet on NBA or
NCAA basketball. Point spreads are used
to handicap the favorites and underdogs for any particular game, and over and under
totals are also quite popular in basketball betting.
There are many Online sports books offering NBA and NCAA betting action on point spreads and
totals for the entire game as well as for each individual half. Money line betting, proposition betting, point buying, parlays and teasers are
just a couple of other gambling options available as well.
BASKETBALL POINT SPREAD & OVER / UNDER BETTING
When betting on a point spread
bet, the team bet on must win by the number of points specified. On an over /
under bet, the total points of the contest by both teams, including overtime, must fall over or under the side selected.
-
Example of a point spread:
The posted line is the L.A. Lakers -10 at Portland Trailblazers +10 and the over
/ under total is 189.
-
The odds are $1.10 to win $1.00 (-110) unless otherwise shown.
- Bettor bets on the Lakers -10, they must win by more than 10
points for this to be a winning bet.
- Bettor bets on Portland +10, they must either win the game, or lose by less than 10 points for this to
be a winning bet.
- If the outcome falls on the number, either way, the bet is declared a "Push", and the original stake will be refunded.
Bettor bets on the total points of this game by both teams to
be "Over" 189, the combined final score of both teams must be greater than 189.
- Bettors who bet on the total points of this game by both teams to
be "Under" 189, the combined final score of both teams must be less
than 189.
- If the outcome falls on the number, the bet is declared a
"Push", and the original bet will be refunded.
NBA OR NCAA
HALFTIME BETS
Halftime betting
is simply a bet only on the score of the 1st or 2nd half of a game.
The line offered will be a point spread, a money line or a combination of the 2, but the
bet will apply only to the score of the halftime period stated.
BASKETBALL
QUARTER BETTING
Betting on
quarters is basically a bet only on the score of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th quarter of a
game. The lines are offered on marquee events - playoffs and championship games. The lines
are point spread, a money line, or a combination of the 2, but the bet applies only to the score
of the quarter stated.
MONEY LINE BETTING ON BASKETBALL
Money line betting
is simply gambling on the game based on a set price rather than a point spread. The team
bet on, basically has to win the game outright, regardless
the score.
Example of moneyline betting:
A bettor can select 1 of 2 bets on the following match up: L.A. Lakers
-200 at Portland Trailblazers +180. Should the Lakers win, the bettor put down $200.00
to win $100.00. If Portland wins, the bettor who played $100.00 wins $180.00.
BASKETBALL
POINT BUYING
Point buying is a way of letting the bettor improve the point spread of a
basketball game, by
actually "buying points" for the team / side or total he is betting on. Bettors can
purchase points in 1/2-point increments, up to a maximum of 3 points, depending
on the game.
Example of Point
Buying::
- The L.A. Lakers are playing the Portland Trailblazers, and the line on the game
is the Lakers -10, with a total of 189.
-
Should a $100 bet be placed on the Lakers
-10 with a 1/2 point buy, the bettor will have a bet on the Lakers -9 1/2 points,
and must pay $120 to win $100, instead of the usual $110 to win $100.
- Should the bettor, for example, ask for a full 1 point buy to adjust the point
spread down to
-9, he would have to pay $130 to win $100.
-
The bettor may also buy points on the Trailblazers side, and get the
line at +10 1/2 or 11 points, with the same increase in vigorish or commission.
Points may also be bought for basketball totals.
- In this specific game,
bettors could buy an "over" bet with a maximum line move down to
188, or an "under" bet with a maximum line move up to 190.
PARLAYS,
TEASERS, PROPOSITIONS & FUTURES
